South Carolina OSHA Training
South Carolina workers can benefit from workplace safety training in a variety of ways. Even if your current employer doesn't require OSHA Outreach training, earning your official OSHA card is a low-cost way to improve your resume for future job opportunities.
South Carolina Labor Laws
The South Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration (SC OSHA) has jurisdiction over all private and public sector workplaces within the state, but it exempts private sector maritime activities, employment on military bases, Savannah River and Three Rivers Solid Waste Authority private sector employment, federal government workers and the United States Postal Service.
SC OSHA adopted all OSHA standards and regulations applicable to private and public sector workplaces and has no state-specific standards. SC OSHA offers voluntary programs aimed at reducing injuries and illnesses in the workplace. On-site consultation services to correct potential hazards before they result in injury or illness are available.
South Carolina Top OSHA Violations
According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, South Carolina's rate of private industry injuries/illnesses dropped to 2.9 per 100 workers in 2013 from 3.0 in 2012 and 3.3 in 2011. The rate of manufacturing injuries/illnesses per 100 workers dropped from 3.4 to 3.1; however, construction injuries/illnesses rose from 2.3 to 2.4 per 100 workers. Other sub-sector industries that saw injury rates of more than 5 out of 100 workers included nursing, repair and maintenance, wood product manufacturing, hospitals and textile mills.
The most cited standard, which also receives the highest penalties, is for fall prevention in construction. Falls are a common cause of serious work-related injuries and deaths, and OSHA has many guidelines to help prevent them.

OSHA Guidelines
OSHA's purpose is to provide safe conditions for workers. OSHA sets very broad and general regulations that most businesses must followed, as well as more detailed standards for specific industries, from construction to cosmetology and beyond.
Receiving OSHA training has benefits beyond meeting requirements and keeping employees safe. It leads to healthier employees with more ease of mind, which increases productivity. Boosting morale, it reduces turnover and the time and resources spent on recruiting and training replacements. It reduces productive workers' time away from the job due to injury and illness. This is all in addition to helping protect you from OSHA's retribution, as it can levy heavy fines for not following the standards presented in our OSHA courses.
